Glossary

Key terms and concepts you'll encounter in Treehouse.

Hideout

The NFT that lets you create and control a workspace. One Hideout = one workspace.

Example: You hold Hideout #42. You use it to create "pixel-pandas" workspace. That workspace is tied to your Hideout — transfer the NFT, transfer the workspace.

Workspace

A private, token-gated space for your community. Members access it by holding NFTs you specify.

Example: Your workspace "pixel-pandas" requires members to hold an NFT from the Pixel Pandas collection. Anyone with a Panda can access it.

Access Modes

How members can access your workspace. You choose one when creating a workspace.

NFT Only

Members must hold an NFT from collections you specify. No exceptions.

Invite Only

Only wallets you explicitly add to the allowlist can access. No NFT requirements.

NFT + Allowlist

Members can access if they hold a qualifying NFT OR if their wallet is on the allowlist.

Roles

The permission levels in a workspace.

Owner

The wallet that holds the Hideout NFT. Full control: can transfer ownership, delete workspace, manage admins, and change all settings.

Admin

Granted by the owner. Can manage gating rules, allowlist, and workspace settings. Cannot transfer or delete the workspace.

Member

Anyone who has access (via NFT or allowlist). Can view workspace content but cannot change settings.

Gating Rule

A rule that specifies which NFT collection grants access to your workspace.

Example: You add a gating rule for "Pixel Pandas" with minimum 1 NFT. Anyone holding at least one Panda NFT can now access your workspace.

You can add multiple gating rules. Members need to satisfy only one rule to gain access.

Allowlist

A list of wallet addresses that can access your workspace regardless of NFT holdings.

Use cases: Grant access to team members who don't hold your NFT, allow partners or guests, or manually approve specific community members.

Transfer

Move workspace ownership to another wallet. The recipient becomes the new owner with full control.

Important: Transfers are permanent. Once accepted, you lose all owner privileges. This action is logged in the workspace audit trail.

Transfers have a 7-day expiration. The recipient must accept before it expires, or it's cancelled automatically.

Verified Workspace

A workspace that has been manually verified as an official DAO or project workspace.

Why it matters: Verification helps members identify legitimate workspaces and avoid phishing attempts where someone creates a fake workspace pretending to be an official DAO.

Look for the verified badge next to workspace names.
